The Story Behind the Spin

Built by a player, for players.

The Finals player card for 1XL Momentum, Season 7 Diamond, level 96

How this started

I built this site to learn how to code. It's become my playground for continuing to learn and build.

I wanted a random loadout generator, but the ones out there weren't being maintained. So I had ChatGPT spit out random loadouts for me, which was lame. Then I thought, "what if I built a slot machine version?"

People started finding it through Google. I kept adding to it: meta weapons, patch notes, a World Tour tracker, and Scotty the AI assistant. Now the site gets over 30,000 visits a month.

About me

I'm Paul. I spent 20 years at a Fortune 50 company before walking away to learn to code and build with AI. This site was my first real project.

These days my main project—the thing I work on full-time—is MeritPlaybook, which helps families figure out which colleges will actually give their student merit scholarships and lower the final bill. Same approach as this site: dig into the real data, skip the fluff.

I also built Heritage Whisper, an app for preserving family stories.

If the site's ever saved you a round, buying me a coffee keeps it running.
