How to Counter the Biggest Threats in THE FINALS (Season 10)

Most threats in THE FINALS have a hard counter, and one gadget covers a huge range: the Glitch Grenade instantly shuts down enemy shields (Mesh and Dome), turrets, and the Healing Beam. Beyond that, Thermal Vision or a Sonar Grenade beats invisibility, fire clears goo, and the Nullifier stops Evasive Dash and Charge N Slam. Here is how to beat the biggest threats this season. For builds see the meta loadouts; for ability and gadget rankings see specializations and gadgets.

Stealth

Cloaking Device

LightMedium

Specialization

A Light turns nearly invisible (undetectable when standing still) to flank, steal, revive, or escape.

Counter Thermal Vision sees straight through a cloak. With no thermal, a Sonar Grenade or Proximity Sensor pings their position, and any damage instantly decloaks them. Cloak also makes a loud sound on activation and while moving, so listen and pre-fire common angles.

Vanishing Bomb

LightMedium

Gadget

Cloaks the whole enemy team at once for a coordinated push or a clean getaway.

Counter The same detection beats it: Sonar Grenade, Proximity Sensor, and Thermal Vision reveal cloaked pushers, and chip damage decloaks them. A team push telegraphs its lane, so hold a tight angle and spray the likely entry.

Mobility

Evasive Dash

LightMedium

Specialization

A Light dashes in and out of fights, hard to pin down with aim alone.

Counter The Nullifier locks out their Dash entirely. Area denial like Goo, Pyro, mines, or a Gas Grenade punishes the predictable dash-out, and shotguns or burst weapons delete them in the half-second they commit. Aim where they are dashing to, not where they are.

Winch Claw

HeavyMedium

Specialization

A Heavy yanks you, or the cashout station, across the map into its team or a hazard.

Counter Break line of sight, since the claw needs to see you and any wall or corner cancels the pull. A Mesh Shield or Dome Shield physically blocks the claw, and a Medium's Shockwave can knock the Heavy off mid-pull. Never stand in the open against a winch Heavy.

Shields & Cover

Mesh Shield

HeavyEasy

Specialization

A movable 850-HP front shield that escorts a team across open ground and protects cashout steals.

Counter A Glitch Grenade detonates on contact and instantly closes the shield. It only covers the front, so flank to its sides or back, or push inside the bubble. Explosives chunk its HP fast if you must break it head-on.

Dome Shield

HeavyEasy

Gadget

A stationary 360-degree bubble that locks down a cashout or a revive.

Counter A Glitch Grenade instantly destroys the dome. It is fixed in place and only blocks fire from outside, so simply push inside it. A Data Reshaper can also turn it against them.

Barricade

HeavyEasy

Gadget

Durable deployable walls that fortify a room or choke point.

Counter Explosives (RPG-7, C4, Frag) and melee tear barricades down quickly, and they can be vaulted or shot around at the gaps. Glitch does not help here, so bring breach damage.

Sustain

Healing Beam

MediumMedium

Specialization

A Medium pocket-heals a teammate, often a Heavy, faster than you can out-damage them.

Counter Focus the healer first, as they are defenseless while beaming and cannot shoot back. A Glitch Grenade cuts the beam, and burst damage that out-paces the heal (snipers, shotguns, explosives) breaks the sustain. Split the healer from their target with displacement.

Deployables

Goo Gun & Goo Grenade

HeavyEasy

Gadget

Walls of goo block sightlines, doorways, and movement abilities (goo now stops Dash and Grapple).

Counter Fire removes goo instantly: a Pyro Grenade, the Flamethrower, or any flame clears a path. Explosives also blow through it. Otherwise just go around, since goo is cover, not a kill tool.

Best countersPyro GrenadeFlamethrower

Guardian Turret

MediumEasy

Specialization

An auto-aiming turret locks down a room and calls out your position.

Counter A Glitch Grenade disables it, and explosives or focused fire destroy it. Break its line of sight with Goo, Smoke, or a Barricade, or peek from outside its roughly 20m range. Place your own turret on a ceiling to deny easy destruction.

Best countersGlitch GrenadeFrag Grenade

APS Turret

MediumEasy

Gadget

Shoots down your projectiles (grenades, RPG, C4) near a defended objective.

Counter It only stops projectiles, so hitscan guns ignore it entirely. Overwhelm it with several thrown gadgets at once, Goo it (each blob it intercepts damages it), or simply shoot it down, since it has low HP.

Brawlers

Charge N Slam

HeavyMedium

Specialization

A Heavy bulldozes through walls to close distance and knock you around.

Counter The Nullifier stops the charge dead. Otherwise dodge perpendicular to the charge line and punish the long recovery, since they are a sitting duck once it ends. Do not fight it in a tight room where the knockback chains.

Frequently asked

How do you counter invisibility (Cloaking Device) in THE FINALS?

Thermal Vision sees straight through a cloak. With no thermal, a Sonar Grenade or Proximity Sensor pings their position, and any damage instantly decloaks them. Cloak also makes a loud sound on activation and while moving, so listen and pre-fire common angles.

How do you counter the Winch Claw in THE FINALS?

Break line of sight, since the claw needs to see you and any wall or corner cancels the pull. A Mesh Shield or Dome Shield physically blocks the claw, and a Medium's Shockwave can knock the Heavy off mid-pull. Never stand in the open against a winch Heavy.

How do you counter shields (Mesh Shield and Dome Shield) in THE FINALS?

A Glitch Grenade is the answer to both: it detonates on contact and instantly closes a Mesh Shield or destroys a Dome Shield. Shields only block the front (Mesh) or fire from outside (Dome), so flank the sides or push inside the bubble.

How do you counter a Heavy in THE FINALS?

Strip their defenses first: a Glitch Grenade closes Mesh and Dome shields and the Nullifier stops a Charge N Slam or Winch Claw. Then kite at range using cover (Heavies are slow), focus fire as a team, and use verticality to break their sightlines.

What is the best counter gadget in THE FINALS?

The Glitch Grenade. It disables enemy shields (Mesh, Dome), turrets (Guardian, APS), the Healing Beam, and most gadgets on contact, making it the single most flexible counter tool in the game.
